Care & Maintenance Guide

Our tables are designed with minimal maintenance in mind – most care comes down to common sense and a damp microfiber cloth. This guide provides practical tips, but always follow the instructions on the care products you choose.

Quick Guide

  • Protected surfaces (matte, satin, gloss): Wipe with microfiber. Minor scratches in epoxy may appear over time but can often be polished out with a simple polishing machine and plastic polish (similar to car polishing).

  • Oiled surfaces: Oil treatment at least twice a year, ideally at season changes.

  • Storage: Keep at normal room temperature, avoid direct sunlight, dry air, and large temperature swings.

1. Daily Cleaning

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth (e.g., microfiber).

  • For light dirt: wring out in water, add mild natural soap if necessary.

  • Avoid bleach, harsh cleaners, or abrasive sponges.

  • Wipe spills immediately to prevent stains.

2. Protection from Wear & Heat

  • Always use trivets for hot items.

  • Placemats or tablecloths reduce everyday wear.

  • Use coasters to avoid water rings.

  • Keep indoor climate stable – sudden humidity/temperature shifts can cause cracks.

  • Protect from direct sunlight to reduce discoloration.

  • Keep away from heat sources (radiators, fireplaces, heat pumps).

3. Oil-Treated Plank Tables

  • Follow the oil manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Clean the surface, allow to dry.

  • Lightly sand if needed (grit 120–180).

  • Apply oil evenly with a lint-free cloth.

  • Let absorb for 10–15 minutes, then wipe excess.

  • Allow to cure for 6–12 hours.

  • Repeat every 3–6 months or as needed.

4. Epoxy Tables

  • Clean with damp microfiber only.

  • Do not use oil or wax.

  • Avoid sharp objects and high heat.

  • Small scratches can be polished with machine + plastic polish.

  • Larger scratches may be repaired with clear epoxy.

5. Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Excess water or harsh cleaning agents.

  • Forgetting oil treatments on wood.

  • Placing near heat sources.

  • Putting hot or wet items directly on the surface.

  • Storing in garages, basements, or sunrooms with extreme climates.

6. Handling Cracks

  • Small rustic cracks: smooth with sandpaper if desired.

  • Larger cracks: may require “butterflies” or epoxy filler.

  • Quick fix: tape off and fill with epoxy repair kit.

  • Persistent cracks may signal poor storage/conditions – in such cases, sanding and refinishing may be needed.

We prefer epoxy repairs, as we already use epoxy to enhance natural features in the wood.
