Our Wood

Our Wood – East Indian Walnut (Albizia saman)

At Unika Design, we craft our tables primarily from East Indian Walnut – also known by its botanical name Albizia saman.
In Denmark, this species is often referred to as “Golden Walnut” due to its characteristic golden edges. Few people here are familiar with it, and many mistake it for other walnut varieties. Yet when seen up close, its exceptional beauty and detail speak for themselves – especially when combined with epoxy resin, which adds depth, dimension, and contrast.

Why We Choose East Indian Walnut

  1. Natural Beauty & Elegance
With warm golden-brown to dark-brown tones and striking grain patterns, East Indian Walnut has a richness few other woods can match. When polished, its natural variations bring every table to life.

  2. Strength & Durability
This hardwood is stable, resistant to warping, and naturally protected against insects. Combined with epoxy, it creates a strong, lasting bond. After more than 10 years of experience, our workshop has refined the most effective techniques to achieve both beauty and durability.

  3. Symbolism & Meaning
Known in English as the “Rain Tree,” its pink-white blossoms symbolize vitality and wisdom. Its iconic umbrella-shaped crown has often been compared to the legendary savanna tree in The Lion King – a symbol of life and balance.

  4. Exclusivity
East Indian Walnut is relatively rare in furniture production, making each of our tables a unique, sought-after piece. For those looking for something truly distinctive, it offers unmatched character.

  5. Sustainability & Growth
Fast-growing and drought-tolerant, the species has long been used on coffee plantations for shade. Today it is cultivated responsibly across several regions worldwide, not limited to its native South and Central America.

  6. Our Commitment
Every plank we use is carefully selected and processed to meet our high standards of craftsmanship. By combining Golden Walnut with epoxy resin and fine detailing, we create luxury tables that balance modern design with timeless natural beauty.
